Project Unwined

Design of a wine bar in close consultation with the client

We renovated this former copper and tin shop, turning it into a cosy wine bar, called Unwined, together with the bar’s owner Koen. Koen explained that he wanted to oversee the works himself, keeping control of the process, by doing a lot of the work himself and being present on the construction site. We often tell clients who are interested in a renovation or building project that there is one golden rule: even if you outsource everything, always remember that while trust is good, checking every single thing yourself is even better. It’s a good way of keeping professionals on their toes and you can intervene faster in case of errors. The City of Mechelen should be happy with entrepreneurs like Koen who invest in its buildings. Steenweg/Onder den Toren feels a little more vibrant as a result!

We chose warm, natural materials, such as reclaimed wood, for the interior design, ensuring customers immediately feel at home when they enter. At the rear we created a salon with old, restored furniture, which patrons can move around as they see fit. It has the look and feel of a cosy, nostalgic old-school club. At the front of the bar, we opted for a fixed set-up with comfortable tables.
